Time for vacations. Time for relaxation. Time to hit the beach and leave the day-to-day stresses behind. The truth is, there are many ways to de-stress at work that only take a few minutes.\u00a0\u00a0Here are a few great examples:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Be proactive.<\/b>\u00a0 \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rd.com\/slideshows\/10-ways-to-de-stress-your-work-day\/#slideshow+slide1\" rel=\"nofollow\">Get a head start<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.inc.com\/minda-zetlin\/de-stress-at-work-in-15-minutes-5-tips.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">wake up earlier<\/a>\u201d are recommended to reduce your overall stress. Even starting your day just 15 minutes earlier gives you extra time to prepare for your day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Grab a book.<\/b>\u00a0 A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/health\/healthnews\/5070874\/Reading-can-help-reduce-stress.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">2009 study by the University of Sussex<\/a> found that as little as six minutes of silent reading reduced stress levels by up to 68%. \u00a0The same study found that listening to music was helpful for stress reduction. Keep a book and headphones at work.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Laugh.<\/b>\u00a0 It is the best medicine, after all. According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mayoclinic.com\/health\/stress-relievers\/MY01373\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mayo Clinic website<\/a>, \u201cWhen you start to laugh, it lightens your mental load and actually causes positive physical changes in your body. Laughter fires up and then cools down your stress response, producing a good, relaxed feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Be active.<\/b>\u00a0 Get up and move around for a few minutes or, if the weather is good, take a walk around the block. Even little things like simply taking a few deep breaths or stretching at your desk can help you stay fresh and focused at work.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, until it\u2019s time for you to hit the beach, if you need to fend off a case of writer\u2019s block, de-stress or give your creativity a boost, take a minute to recharge and refocus.
