Tell Your Story is on a Mission

We’ve thrown our hat in the ring for a Chase Mission Main Street℠ Grant, and we would love your support.  VOTE HERE. Or read more to learn more.   What is Mission Main Street℠ Grants?  Mission Main Street℠ Grants is a program by Chase that awards 12 small businesses grants of $250,000 to help grow their businesses.  The program is sponsored by Chase, Google and a diverse group of organizations.   To apply, each small business must create a business profile and answer five questions about their business that will be reviewed by panelists to determine the winners.  Tell Your Story has created a profile, which can be viewed here.  We also answered questions – in 500 characters or less – about Tell Your Story.  It’s sometimes hard answering questions in 500 characters, but I think we did a good job. If you agree, we would love your vote.   Tell us about your business. What...

Amplifying Our Stories at #CMWorld

Tell Your Story was at Content Marketing World 2013 in Cleveland earlier this month, enjoying keynotes, break out sessions, Lunch and Learns and connecting with friends, old and new.  Attendees had the opportunity to take part in some fantastic content conversations throughout the conference, whether they were on site and in person or following #CMWorld and watching the live streaming sessions from a distance.  We're so glad Tell Your Story was there to be part of the “Amplify Your Story” dialogue.  Here are a few of our favorite pictures from the conference.  Visit us on Facebook to see more #CMWorld photos.   [caption id="attachment_1629" align="aligncenter" width="614"] Joe Pulizzi and George at #CMWorld[/caption] [caption id="attachment_1632" align="aligncenter" width="368"] Jonathan Mildenhall of Coca Cola talks Liquid Storytelling[/caption] [caption id="attachment_1635" align="aligncenter" width="512"] George at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame[/caption]  ...

How I Applied Client Profiling Skills to Puppy Training

“Client Profiling” is my own term, as far as I know, and at a previous agency, we spent a number of internal education sessions refining our skills in this area. What it comes down to is this: understanding how your client processes information in order to make decisions.   Does she need a lot of information to ponder all the options, or is she more of a top-line info-only person in order to make that decision and keep moving. Is he visual or conceptual? Are you better giving one recommendation or laying out several options?  Does she need to talk it through to determine a direction? These are just some of the personality traits to consider when you start working with a new client. It certainly takes some time and good old-fashioned listening, but to develop a credible relationship and work at growing the business, it is crucial.   If you think about it...

SVM Debuts New Brand Identity at #SHRM13

What annual conference connects over 15,000 human resource professionals to 800 exhibitors under one roof? None other than the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) expo! Tell Your Story had the opportunity to witness the excitement firsthand this week at the SHRM 2013 Annual Conference & Expo at McCormick Place. This year’s turnout was reportedly the largest in the show’s history—even the show’s Twitter hashtag, #SHRM13, was a trending topic on the social media site.   With a guest speaker lineup including Hillary Rodham Clinton, Blake Mycoskie, and Mark Kelly and Gabby Giffords, hundreds of educational sessions, and a performance by Kelly Clarkson, there was undoubtedly enough to be excited about. However, the Tell Your Story team was most enthusiastic about the chance to work hand-in-hand with client SVM, a global leader in incentive and motivation solutions, in their booth.         Over the past few months, Tell Your Story developed and launched an integrated...

4 easy ways to de-stress at work

[caption id="attachment_1514" align="alignleft" width="300"] Photo cred: Stockvault.net[/caption] This Friday is the first day of summer. Time for vacations. Time for relaxation. Time to hit the beach and leave the day-to-day stresses behind. The advent of summertime brings to mind our need for a break.  But that’s not always possible in the midst of deadlines and projects and, well, life. Or, is it? The truth is, there are many ways to de-stress at work that only take a few minutes.  Here are a few great examples:   Be proactive.  “Get a head start” and “wake up earlier” are recommended to reduce your overall stress. Even starting your day just 15 minutes earlier gives you extra time to prepare for your day.   Grab a book.  A 2009 study by the University of Sussex found that as little as six minutes of silent reading reduced stress levels by up to 68%.  The same study found that listening to...

Sometimes You Need a “Get to the Ball” Strategy

It’s important at some point in your career to realize what you can and cannot do as a professional. Once you realize your strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes, limitations and opportunities, you will have a much happier career.   Take my soccer coaching career as an example. Now I’m not a soccer guy. Far from it. But I do love seeing my boys (8 and 5 years old) in competition and running out there. One day, I get asked to help out the main coach at practice. I was hooked.   My soccer coaching skills consist of a little stretching, some fun, humor and a lot of energy focused on one thing – “get to the ball!” For pre-K to second grade, it has worked out well. I have a great winning percentage, happy boys and appreciative parents who give me gift cards at the season-ending pizza party.   [caption id="attachment_1426" align="aligncenter" width="300"] The Red Lightening posted...

My First Time at BMA National

I was fortunate to be one of nearly 800 B2B marketers to attend BMA Blaze, Business Marketing Association’s National Conference last week in Chicago. It was my first time attending the entire conference and boy was it jam-packed full of energizing education sessions and— of course— lots of networking and fun.   There were plenty of great B2B insights to choose from, but I’ve narrowed it down to my top 4 takeaways over the 3-day event.   1)   We’re all in sales. Get over it. During Dan Pink’s fantastic keynote he shared the top words people associate with sales and not surprisingly they aren’t pretty: yuck, smarmy and sleazy. But we all spend time in our jobs convincing or persuading someone… in other words sales. Gone are the times of the typical sleazy car salesmen though. We have gone from “Buyer Beware” to “Seller Beware.” Today, buyers are well-informed, have more choices and plenty...
